Services

Redfern Canines is dedicatedLab Puppy to providing a quality dog-related experience for owners and handlers who take their responsibility seriously.

We subscribe to the Code of Ethics of the Harrisburg Kennel Club, and strive to adhere to the Labrador Retriever Breed Standard of the American Kennel Club and the Labrador Retriever Club.  All puppies are provided with AKC registration materials and a Pedigree of at least 4 generations.  Results of hip, elbow and eye certifications will be provided for the parents and, whenever possible, for prior generations.

Our puppies are bred to produce a temperament and physical structure that raises the bar for quality.  Every possible precaution is taken to reduce the likelihood of diseases or physical conditions that can affect the dogs as they grow into adulthood.

Our puppies are born and raised in a home environment with lots of attention to socializing them.  They have nearly constant human companionship, & are raised in a stimulus-rich environment.  By the time they are ready to move to their adoptive home, the puppies will have experienced hundreds of hours of caring guidance.

Dog Training Classes are available using positive reinforcement methods.  Training opportunities include both Class Settings and Individualized Instruction.  Operant Conditioning (Clicker Training) helps the dog to be more actively involved in their own growth and behavior and helps to build a more wholesome long-term bond between dog and handler.  The Director of Training is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT); member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC) and the Harrisburg Kennel Club; a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test Evaluator -- certified by the American Kennel Club; and has been training dogs and dog owners professionally for over 20 years.

Individual Training and Consultation is available for owners who prefer this option.  Individual sessions are tailored to the family's needs and convenience, and may cover basic training, behavior problems or specific training roadblocks.  These sessions may be offered at the owner's home or other location by request.

Assistance Dog Training and Consultation provides training for owners who would like their dogs to assist with mobility, hearing, or emotional disabilities.  Services include dog selection, training in all skills and behaviors customized to the needs of the client, and consultation to address ongoing needs and challenges.

Therapy Dog Training and Support Group.  In addition to providing training and seminars to teach both dogs and owner/handlers the skills and behaviors required of Therapy Dogs, a Support Group holds regular meetings to enable owner/handlers to share their experiences and hone their skills.

Breeding and Pedigree Services help guide individuals to make responsible choices regarding the breeding of their own dogs.  In some cases, we have been able to trace pedigrees back through 12 or more generations.

Puppy Temperament Evaluations are available as a service to Breeders and Individuals.  Evaluations help to determine the potential for training, socialization and community involvement with humans and other animals, etc.  Evaluations are normally performed at seven weeks of age, although they can be performed at later stages in the dog's life.
